Are you tired of listening to your car’s dull and weak bass sound system? Do you want to replace it with a high-quality subwoofer? Then you are at the right place.

In this article, we are going to tell — how you can choose the correct car subwoofer, and we’ll also provide a detailed Pioneer’s 12″ 2,000-Watt Champion Pro Subwoofer review to help you make the right choice.

Pioneer Ts-w3003d4 12" 2,000-watt Champion Series pro Sub-woofer

To select the right car subwoofer, you should keep these features in mind:

The size of the subwoofer
Audio quality
Power handling
Customer service

Let’s start with a size of the Pioneer Ts-w3003d4 12″ 2,000-watt Champion Series pro Sub-woofer.

Size of Pioneer Ts-w3003d4

Car subwoofers are available in various sizes. The most common diameter size range is from 8 to 15 inches. It’s a common perception that if you have a larger subwoofer, that’ll result in a better frequency.

However, you do not require much larger subwoofers since the human capability of listening to the low frequency is 20 Hz. Larger subwoofers also need greater power.

Therefore, a car subwoofer with a 12-inch diameter, like Pioneer’s Champion Pro subwoofer, is best suited for your car. Apart from size, audio quality is also crucial.

Audio quality

The subwoofer should not only provide you the right bass but should also enhance the complete quality of the sound that you are listening.

If you are listening to music, the total sound of drums, bass’s thunder and the overall range of tunes inside it should clearly come to you. The champion Pro subwoofer provides exactly that.

It has the capability of providing 20 Hz frequency for the low-frequency response and 150 Hz frequency for the high-frequency response. Not only that, it has been provided 100% audio quality score by the review site

Power handling

The biggest factor in choosing the subwoofer inside power handling is the sensitivity. So what is sensitivity (dB)?

Sensitivity is the measurement of how efficiently a subwoofer can convert the power (in Watts) to sound. Higher sensitivity results in better sound quality even at low-power.

The sensitivity of the champion Pro subwoofer is 96 dB. It means that you’ll get better sound even after using very less battery power.

Two more important factors inside power handling are continuous power handling (RMS Watt) and peak power handling.

The RMS value represents how much constant power a subwoofer can handle for an extended period while the peak power means the highest power which it can handle at one time.

In both of these cases, the Pioneer’s subwoofers perform very well with RMS value of 600 Watts and the peak power value of 2000 W.

Tips on How to wire your Car Audio System

If you are planning the installation of a new amazing sound and video system in your car, you have to consider the wiring that it entails.

A little expert advice on wiring your stereo and speakers will help you achieve the quality of sound that will make others green with envy.

The speaker wires

Tips on How to wire your Car Audio System

If you have existing speakers connected to your stereo, you would probably utilise the existing wiring to connect the new speakers and audio receiver.

If you are replacing your receiver, you might find some harnessing that can act as an adapter between existing wiring and the new wiring to your car audio receiver.

Car audio systems are more often than not quite similar, which makes it not too troublesome to connect with new speaker wires.

Electrical and Powering

It is important to keep in mind when installing a new system or adding a new sub-woofer, that your powering needs may increase.

High-wattage amplifiers will draw more power which will change your wiring needs. You may have to use a lower gauge wire that will deliver more power.

Connector Cabling and Wire Gauge

Connector Cabling:  As an addition to regular speaker wire, you could upgrade the cabling from the receiver to the power amplifier.

If you want to prevent distortion, you should use a cable with good insulation before the signal relays to the rest of the audio components.

Wire gauge: Most pre-installed audio systems use 16-gauge and 12-guage wires. 8-Guage wire works best for powering all but the smallest of amplifiers on an audio system.

A lower gauge number means a thicker wire, lower electric resistance but more power reaching the speakers and amplifier. Match the resistance rating for your amp with the resistance of the speaker wire.

Types of connectors

The gauge of wiring you’re using will determine the type of connectors you will need to connect to the audio components. You may need spade and flat connectors, in-line fuse holders and battery terminals.

Consult your amplifier’s installation guide to ensure you have the correct wiring and connector types recommended for the components you are using.

Battery usage

While the car’s motor is running, the alternator powers your sound system and the rest of your car’s electrical system.

Mostly you don’t have to worry about the battery providing enough power to support the audio system’s amp, however, when the car is turned off the battery becomes the sole source of power to the sound system.

If your audio system draws excessive power, your battery will run flat unless you install a second battery specifically for your car audio system.

Upgrading your alternator

Should your sound system draw too much power from your car’s battery, you can look into solving the problem by upgrading the alternator.

Depending on your vehicle’s make and model, replacing the alternator can be a simple task.

Try finding an aftermarket alternator that can accommodate the increased power demands from your amplifier.

Another common problem that you could face when installing a high-powered sound system, is excessive vibrating.

You can minimize this problem by installing sound-dampening materials to line your trunk and door panels.

How to Use an Mp3 Player in Car Stereo

5 Ways for you to enjoy your MP3 Player through your car stereo

A lot of us have a super collection of our favourite tunes on our MP3 player. We can listen to this collection of our best tunes wherever we are, but what if you want to listen to it in your car? So you wish you listen to it in you car, right?

Wearing your earphones is not only not practical, it is dangerous too. This is how to enjoy your MP3 player safely:

How to Use an Mp3 Player in Car Stereo

FM Transmitter

You can connect your MP3 Player via signal transmission using a FM Transmitter. The transmitter sends a signal from your player to your stereo over a frequency not being used by nearby radio stations.

While some transmitters allow you to choose your own frequency, others allow you only to use preset frequencies.

Some transmitters also have a function that allows you to charge your MP3 battery while connected.

FM Transmitter Play Music From MP3 Player or Laptop to Car Stereo, BoomBox, OR Home Stereo

Cassette Player Adapter

A cassette adapter is shaped like an old fashioned cassette tape which is connected to a wire and a mini earphone jack which plugs into your MP3 player.

The music from your portable MP3 player plays through the cassette de k on your car stereo.

Line-In Jack

Sone car stereos have a line-in jack. If so, you need to purchase a 3.5mm “male-to-male” cable that connects the headphone jack on your MP3 player to the line-in jack on your car stereo.

Bluetooth is a popular option for connecting either your MP3 player or smart device to your car stereo.

Newer vehicles often come with manufacturer supplied stereos that can directly connect to your smartphone or MP3 player, allowing you to take and make phone calls with no need for wiring.

If you have an older vehicle you could purchase a newer model car stereo with a built-in Bluetooth function or buy a Bluetooth adapter that can work with your current stereo.

Built-In Music Player Jack

The newer model vehicles often have a built option in the vehicle itself, located on the actual stereo or elsewhere in the car like the glove or storage compartment, or the middle console by the handbrake which can directly plug into your MP3 player using a USB, RCA/audio cable, or both.

If you are unsure, check with your car’s user manual. Some makes and models even allow you to sort through playlists and song selections using volume buttons on your stereo instead of your MP3 player itself.

How to Install Bluetooth in a Car Stereo System

The desire for a Bluetooth connection in one’s car has increased in the past few years due to more and more drivers carrying smart phones, tablets and other Bluetooth devices.

A lot of places now enforce laws limiting the use of cell phones in cars, and Bluetooth car stereos is one method of bridging the middle ground.

Drivers of older vehicles often find that their outdated electronics won’t support Bluetooth settings in their current factory standard cars, which is fortunately not a problem as there are several convenient ways one can install Bluetooth in car.

How To Install Bluetooth in car

Install Bluetooth in car

You have a few options available to you which include the replacement of your existing car stereo with a newer one that comes with built in Bluetooth, model-specific car radio adapters, and universal Bluetooth kits.

There are a variety of different designs and packages when it comes to Universal Bluetooth kits.

These range from the basic Bluetooth receiver with a 3.5mm output jack, dedicated speakerphone kits and Bluetooth FM transmitters.

A Bluetooth FM transmitter receives audio content from a smart device via Bluetooth, and then transmits that content to the car radio through an FM radio transmission.

These versatile devices are compatible with any FM radio receiver including boom boxes and home stereo systems.

They are however not ideal for persons travelling long distance as the constant scanning for new and open frequencies may interfere with your listening pleasure.

Also, they can easily be eavesdropped, even unintentionally, by an FM radio in reception distance from the device.

Imagine the surprise to someone when suddenly your voice is being transmitted over their audio system.

Bluetooth speakerphone kits are ideal for persons wanting a Bluetooth connection for the purposes of hands-free speakerphone connections.

These kits have built in microphones for both listening to calls out loud and also for receiving conversation. Some of these devices clip to the visor or mount to the dashboard of your car.

Basic Bluetooth receiver dongles come with a 3.5mm line out and is a great option due its simplicity.

If left plugged into the auxiliary power, the Bluetooth dongle automatically turns on when the car starts, and connects automatically to the smart device.

The advantage of using a Bluetooth USB dongle is that you can use it in more places than just inside your car.

If an audio cable is run from the “aux in” jack of your car down to the 3.5mm output jack of the dongle, you smart device audio transfers instantly to the stereo system upon starting your vehicle, with no other connecting or switches.

The downside to this set up is that nothing happens automatically. Should one receive a phone call while listening to music playing on the tuner of the radio, the input of the car radio first has to be switched over, allowing the audio to come from the auxiliary channel.

Since the only interface the radio has with the device is an audio cable, smart control directly from the radio is also not possible.

Model-specific Bluetooth car stereo adapters fully integrate into your car’s factory supplied stereo and are vehicle-specific.

Generally installation requires the full removal of the current stereo, connecting necessary cables, and positioning microphones on either the dash or visor.

Once this is done call sounds and music play directly through the stereo’s speaker system.  Many units can handle music streaming as well, with many able to control the selection of the music directly from the radio.

If you are willing to make a bigger investment you can purchase an entirely new car stereo that comes with Bluetooth built right in.

Many car stereo manufacturers such as JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer and Blaupunkt offer models with Bluetooth.

Many times, this route is the easiest since plug interfaces tend to stay standard per manufacturer.

So installing a new unit can be as easy as removing the old one and plugging back the integrated power/speaker plug and antenna  into the new system.

Certain stereos are more advanced than others and feature functions like touchscreen interfaces, GPS and a number of other handy features.

Something one should consider when making such a purchase is that not all Bluetooth car stereos have built-in microphones for speakerphone functionality.

This can hamper the user-friendliness and ease of use for a system. If one has a choice, it is thus better to go for a system which will allow hassle free usage.

Some stereos can save your smart phone’s entire address book in its memory, and will automatically turn down the sound of music or videos playing when an incoming call is received.

Dialling out a number can thus be done directly from the radio interface, while your phone is safely stored away in your pocket.

Each year new technology is designed and released, so when comparing Bluetooth-enabled car stereo systems to the age old tape cassette-enabled car stereos is already like a major throwback onto the Middle Ages.  What the future holds only time will tell.

How to Install Satellite Radio in Car Audio System

If you want to listen to commercial-free music while travelling in your car, it is worth your while looking into Satellite radio, see How you can install satellite radio in car Audio System.

A lot of newer cars comes with a factory installed Satellite radio as part of their sound system, but if your car does not have one, do not despair, because with a few simple steps you can now add this to the existing system.

The sound quality and variety of music may also be just what you were looking for.

Install Satellite Radio in Car

Advantages of Adding Satellite Radio in Car

Satellite radio has many advantages.  Satellite providers have a wide range of channels for a variety of different tastes which means finding some good tunes out of mainstream to listen to is more than possible.

The available music channels are so diverse that you can explore not only genres but multiple subgenres.

You will discover a lot of interesting stuff across the airwaves that you never knew existed or were exposed to on your general local radio stations.  You could also tune into the traffic report, news, sports and weather any time you choose.

Most radio signals only travel 48 to 64kilometres from their source.  When doing a long trip you may have to change radio stations around every hour as the signals fade in and out.

Long drives to remote locations may even cause you to be forced to listen to one station only, or at worst, none at all.

So imagine tuning into a station that can broadcast its signal more than 35 000 kilometres , not having to scan through static to find a signal, and enjoying crisp clear sound all the time.

Sure, satellite radio does have its dead spots or areas where reception is not great, but these areas are generally few and far-apart.

This technology works on the 2.4 Ghz band in North America and the 1.4 Ghz band in some other parts of the world.

A ground station transmits signals from the various radio stations to a satellite, which in turn gets rebroadcast so that you can tune in while sitting in your car. Similarly to TV satellite, bad weather at the base or receiving side could affect your signal, but in fair weather the signal are crisp clear.

In some urban areas, ground stations also repeat the signal, to allow you to have reception where the signals are blocked by high rise buildings or geographic features.

Since a license permits the available bandwidth, service providers can only have a limited number of channels, after which they must start reducing the broadcasting quality of all available stations to fit in a new station, so stations are normally chosen with great care, to give you, the customer, the best experience possible.

install satellite radio in car:

The first of three systems you can choose from is a receiver and tuner unit.  While the tuner is usually installed in the trunk of the vehicle, the receiver plugs directly into your existing sound system.

The second system comes as a standalone device, being set up entirely in your dashboard like a normal car radio.

The third system is a dock-and-play type that can be put in and taken out of your vehicle as needed, but you will have to check that your current system accommodates this type of device by means of a front audio input.

These units sometimes also includes a speaker, so you are able to use it like you would normally use a portable radio. Highly portable, this choice is best for people on the move.

Should you be using a portable dock-and-play Satellite radio, you need not worry about installation.

You plug it into your car’s stereo receiver as and when you need.  However, the other two types of satellite radio will have to be installed.

If you are an avid fan of car audio, you may want to install the satellite radio by yourself, however, the average shopper tends to opt for a professional installation.

The final step to your Satellite radio system is to set up a subscription.  The luxury of commercial-free radio unfortunately comes at a cost.

Due to the fact that Satellite radio avoids broadcasting commercials, the subscriber primarily pays for the service.

Subscriptions vary in length, of which the most common is 12 months.  As long as you are using your subscription, it never hurts to set one up.

A very popular satellite radio service currently running in North America, allows you to listen to a total of 134 radio streams.

69 of these streams, or channels in analogue terms, are dedicated to music while the other 65 hosts a variety of sports, news and entertainment channels.

These broadcast 24-hours daily, uncensored and complete free of commercials. Some talk shows however contain their own commercials.

How to Make a Car Speaker Box With Pictures and Videos

If you are a true fan of car sound, you can surely appreciate a decent speaker box. Transforming your car into a moving sound machine is as simple as making the perfect speaker box. And this you can achieve all by yourself. Follow me as I show you How to Make a Car Speaker Box.

How to Make a Car Speaker Box

How to Make a Car Speaker Box

To some people, a car speaker box might seem as simple as a wooden box with a huge hole cut into it.

Some people simply cannot appreciate how one can improve the sheer sound quality of listening to your favourite tunes by learning the proper way to make a speaker box.

Planning stage:

To start off, planning is key when it comes to the perfect speaker box. Your speaker box can come in a range of different shapes and sizes ultimately determining the crispness and quality of sound.

No matter what the size or make of your car, you can customize your box to fit your needs and style.

Firstly you need a measuring tool to establish the shape and size of your box and to determine the placement space available to you.

Then you need to check your manufacturer’s specs regarding the speaker volume. You need to design the box making sure the dimensions reach the optimal range for the speaker.

You need to calculate your dimensions using this formula: multiply the depth, height and length of the internal dimensions.

This will ultimately give you the internal volume. Your box’s height and length serve as the internal dimensions of your box.

 Starting the assembly:

Once you are done planning, you need to buy your material.  The ideal material to use here is a medium-density fibreboard.

It has non-resonating properties and is tough and durable whereas plywood is not.  Make a template on paper to ensure that none of your material goes to waste, and trace your design onto the fibreboard.

Then use a wood saw to cut out your shapes, taking care not to inhale wood residue and dust.

Cutting angles can get tricky.  Use your previously angle-cut piece as a guide by placing it side by side with the next piece when starting to cut out another angle.

To make pieces flush with one another you can run them through a router table together to trim off any unequal or rough parts eliminating inconsistencies.

Now we get to put it all together.  You need to check your speakers’ specs to establish the diameter of the driver.

Mark out the centre area on the front of the speaker to which you will mount the driver.  To make a perfect circle you will use a router and a Jasper circle guide, where after you will use sandpaper to smoothen the opening.

Drill some pilot holes around the joints and lengths of the box where you want to put your screws in.

Apply a thin line of adhesive along the joints before screwing the pieces together at the pilot holes with wood screws.

You should use rectangular braces around the hollow area in the box to ensure structural integrity, but take care not to block any airflow.

Make sure your seams are airtight by using generous amounts of silicone caulk to seal off all parts where sound could possibly escape.  Your caulk needs to dry for up to 24 hours.

To finish off your box, you need to drill a hole at the bottom back part for the speaker cable to run through.

Clean up your box properly by removing dust, shavings and other residue.  Now you can drill the pilot holes for the drivers.  Run a good amount of speaker cable through the hole in the back.

Attach the speaker cable connector to the back hole and attach the wiring to the connector.

For reduced resonance, layer around an inch of poly filler to the interior of your box at the top, back and bottom.

The last few steps to your speaker box success is to wire the cable to the driver, securing the driver by attaching it to the box face and patting yourself on the back for successfully assembling a speaker box.

How to Improve Your Car Audio Sound Without Going Broke

How to Improve Your Car Audio Sound Without Going Broke;

When you’re driving down the road and you hear someone’s bass beating loud and clear from his car, you realize how great it sounds and suddenly you want to upgrade the sound in your own car.

How to Improve Your Car Audio Sound How to Improve Your Car Audio Sound

Well, why not? You can improve your car audio sound and become someone else’s envy without going broke.

Different approaches to upgrading Your Car Audio Sound

Generally, the first thing to do to achieve better sound is to replace your existing speakers. Vehicle manufacturers don’t care much for the type or quality of speakers they install in your vehicle.

Their main priorities lie with areas like seat belts, airbags and other safety features. Some vehicles come with a range of superb features, but speakers are generally not one of them.

There are a few things to consider when installing new speakers. You need to think of the various brand names, types of speakers and matching the new speakers impendences to your sound system.

In some instances, certain cars cannot support high-end speakers. While this is disappointing, you need not worry as there are ways to work around this problem.

If you can’t fit the desired speakers to your car, you could always install items that add quality and enhance the sound of your existing speakers.

For example, if your speakers have little to no bass, you could acquire bass blockers that push more bass through the speakers even though your system does not allow for a lot of bass.

Two- and three-way speakers are available. While a two-way speaker uses tweeters and woofers to create a high-range frequency, three-way speakers use a woofer, tweeter and a midrange to enhance warmth and texture of the sound. Four way speakers using all four drivers are also available to allow for even more detail.

Video Tutorial on How to Improve Your Car Audio Sound Quality System

Different speakers

A car woofer is generally made of synthetic films or aluminum, but can also be mixed with mica.

It provides a lower range, gives more bass and provides overall excellent sound. It can also handle temperatures to both extremes, whether it be hot or cold.

Tweeters are the most economical type speakers. It disperses sound over a large area producing smoother sounds, and is typically made from paper, aluminum, titanium and synthetic films.

Midrange speakers are between three and a half to seven inches wide and reproduces middle frequencies. When used with other components it creates a nice blend of frequencies.

Supertweeters are used for ultra high frequencies.

Here are some tips on getting the best sound quality for your car:

How to Improve Your Car Audio Sound

  • Replace your existing speakers

Factories don’t normally install the best speakers. A new set of after market speakers can have a major impact on your car’s sound. This is the perfect first step to better sound.

  • Lower the level of compression for your music files

Of course its nice to store a maximum amount of music on your music device, but by doing so you often lose some high and low frequency information along the way. You really can tell on a decent sound system that some quality has gone missing.

  • Bypass your music player’s built-in digital-to-analog (DAC) converter

The DAC inside your portable music player does a good enough job when using your earphones or earbuds, but it cannot deliver the same level of performance you get from the more advanced DAC found in your car stereo.

  • Use Dynamat or a Dynamat Kit to eliminate road noise and other sounds

Dynamat does two things that better your car sound. A door panel is not  the ideal place to install a car speaker.

When attaching Dynamat to your door panel it eliminates the vibrations and creates a stable platform for your speaker, much like a wooden baffle on your home speaker.

  • Add an amplifier

An amplifier makes a huge difference in your audio sound. A separate amplifier will provide your sound system with a clear and crisp sound and the difference in quality would be as day and night. An amp is essential to achieving great powerful sound in your car.

  • Add an equalizer or signal processor

Plastic and glass surfaces reflect sound at a tremendous rate, where carpets, seat covers and other absorbent materials soak it up.

Mixing in poorly placed speakers, the peaks you will find in the frequencies will most definitely cause ear fatigue.

An equalizer will eliminate these peaks whether its built into your receiver or mountedin a processor in your dash.

  • Build or buy a better sub box

When buying a sealed subwoofer box, make sure it is properly sealed. Air leaks take from the quality of sound.

When building a box it is important to build it with the correct interior volume for the sub you have chosen. Mismatching could cause a sub fatality or bad performance.

  • Crossover really does improve the sound of your system

If you use a sub, use the high-pass filter to remove low bass from the car’s full-range speakers.

If you are driving them with the receiver’s built in power, you will get cleaner volume out of them.

Many amps feature subsonic filters which remove super low bass below the range of human hearing. Without that subsonic sludge your amp and sub will run a lot cleaner.

  • Set up your amplifier gains properly

The number one problem when one’s car audio system sounds poor, is that people are under the impression that the gain control on their new amp controls the volume level.

Turned all the way up, it causes awful things to happen. The gain control adjusts the amount of input signal coming into the amp.

Cranking it up too high causes some serious distortion. The actual idea is to turn the receiver volume to ¾ of the way, then turn up the amp gain until you hear distortion. Then back it off a bit and you are good to go.

  • Never max out your tone controls

Boosting your factory radio’s controls to 11 may make your sound system sound better in your driveway, but keep in mind that it creates great distortion when on the highway.

Even if you have replaced your factory radio with an after market stereo which features a multi-band equaliser, the same rule still counts. Avoid excessive tone boosting or cuts if possible.

  • Hear what you’ve been missing and add a sub

A good sub will bring back the proper balance to the bottom octave of your music and you will hear familiar tunes in an entirely new light.

  • If you are going to push your subs to the max, use a capacitor

When designing your car, the makers probably did not consider subwoofers. A lot of bass sucks up a lot of power, and most car batteries are not made to deal with it.

A capacitor works as a buffer between your amplifier and your car’s battery. It stores battery power and releases it as and when your amp demands it.

Lastly, remember that high quality signal cables promote a better signal from the receiver to the amp, so it is a great item to invest in if you want a more detailed and focused sound, ultimately having the best overall experience after you upgraded the system.

How to Add Car Video to Your Vehicle

Different mounts

In-Dash mounting:  Mobile video in-dash systems have two basic sizes.  Single DIN and double DIN.

The DIN refers to the size of the head unit.  These are both generally 7 inches wide.  Both the single and double DIN are 2 and 4 inches high but can vary greatly in depth.

Car Video players usually combine your car video electronics with your car sound and CD player and may be the most convenient option available to you.

You could also choose to mount the car video screen on one of the front-seat visors.  Strap on type monitors simply clip onto your existing sun visor.

Many visor systems have a car video blackout feature that prevents the driver to be distracted while driving.

Overhead mounting is another option.  These options, at times, offer the largest screens available.

These types of car video players combine the screen and player in a handy fold away screen that runs flush with the ceiling while the actual DVD player can be located underneath one of the seats.

You could consider headrest mounted monitors too.  This is a great option for backseat viewing.

When two headrest monitors are installed, they can be connected to separate car video sources allowing one passenger to play video games and the other to watch movies.

You can enjoy the benefit of a bigger screen and stereo sound thanks to monitors and receivers with plenty inputs, whether you are streaming video on your phone, watching DVD’s or downloading to your tablet.

Installation Guide

Installation difficulty levels vary greatly depending on which system you choose to install.

One of the easiest ways to achieve video in your car is to add a DVD receiver in your dash.  Some video receivers even fit into standard dash openings and feature retractable monitors, making installation a lot easier.

For safety reasons, you can only play a DVD or stream a video from your dash if you have your vehicle parked with the handbrake engaged.

The receiver is installed just like a standard deck.  Video receivers usually allow you to connect an extra audio or video component, making it capable of extensive system expansion.

Multi-zone receivers have video/audio outputs for separate monitors.  When using the dual-zone feature you can send the signal to the rear monitors and earphones allowing the viewers at the back to enjoy it as well, whilst the driver can still play the stereo over the car’s speakers.

The cinematic car

Back seat passengers have two ways of watching videos while the car is in motion.   Most commonly used is the headrest video monitor, which comes in one of three designs.

Screens can be installed in your factory headrest, you could secure your monitor to the factory headrest or replace your standard headrest with ones that have pre-installed monitors.

A lot of newer make vehicle have headrests with factory installed monitors which include a variety of video inputs like HDMI ports for HD sources.  When wiring your car video system, take care is using the correct video cable specifically designed for car applications.

They are better insulated and will help eliminate radiated noise which is a common problem in an automotive environment, and prevent the weaker wire from degrading your viewing quality.

Overhead monitors are popularly used in SUV’s and minivans where space is not an issue.  It is much easier for backseat passengers to view a picture from an overhead ceiling monitor.

Overhead monitors, like headrest monitors, mostly feature DVD players built into the housing.  This reduces the number of connection wires.

Final decision

With so many different options to choose from the task of even deciding which one to install may seem daunting but if you allow yourself to really consider how you are going to use it, this guide will definitely help narrow your choices to a unit that will suit your needs.

While your video is important, you are going to have to hear what you are watching. If using dual zone media from an in-dash receiver, you van channel the audio to a rear output. A lot of overhead or headrest videos come with built-in wireless FM modulators.

These beam the audio signal over a FM frequency through your car stereo so the sound is carried through the entire car.

Wireless modulators do at times suffer the occasional interference and may be a little more limited than the hard-wired versions.

Using headphones may be the best way for the back seat viewers to listen to video. With headphones sealing over your ears you eliminate road noise and the chatter of fellow passengers.

Plug in wired earphones will give you the best quality sound, but if your overhead or headrest video comes equipped with infrared transmission, you could use a set of wireless headphones which are ideal in a car given the distance between the monitor and viewer with the seatbelt in-between.

The benefits of a decent car video system is all you can connect to it. Not limited to movies and music, you can add games, local television, and even satellite television. The more audio/video inputs your system has, the more you can do with it.

Certain components like video games may require additional power inverters in order for you to use them in your car.

Say you have two monitors, games, and satellite radio hooked up to an in-dash receiver with multi-zone capability, one person can watch a DVD, the other can play games and the rest can listen to satellite radio over the car speakers. Everyone in the car is entertained and content, making any long rip much less of a drag.
